shades

The word shade was the first name for silhouettes and can refer to an unreal appearance, a nuance, a disembodied spirit, or shadows that gather with nightfall. The word and its multiple meanings reflect the ideas behind this body of work and its physical nature. Working with very thin washi or Japanese paper, I laminate multiple archival inkjet prints together. The final image has a sense of physical depth as you view through portions of printing into other portions of printing. There are over thirty images, all roughly 11" tall, in this series. Shown here are installation views from the Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, CA where the work was shown from June 25th until July 30th, 2006.
